What is Dexxer?

Dexxer is an offline file and folder indexing app for Mac.Connect a drive or select a folder, scan it once, and Dexxer creates a searchable local index of its file names, folder names, and paths. You can then search that saved index later—even when the original source is unplugged.Your saved indexes stay local on your Mac. Dexxer does not require a Dexxer account or cloud service.

How can Dexxer search a drive after it is unplugged?

Connect the drive and scan it once. Dexxer creates a local index of its file names, folder names, and paths.After the drive is disconnected, Dexxer searches that saved index so you can see which drive contains the file you need.To open or reveal the actual file, reconnect the original drive.

How is Dexxer different from Spotlight or Finder search on macOS?

Finder and Spotlight are built into macOS and are useful for searching files that are currently available to your Mac.Dexxer is designed for a different problem: remembering what is stored across external drives, folders, and archives that may not currently be connected.Scan a source once, and its saved Dexxer index remains searchable later, giving you one place to search across your saved scans without reconnecting every drive first.

How does Dexxer index a drive or folder?

When you scan a connected drive or selected folder, Dexxer reads its file and folder structure and creates a saved local index containing the information needed for search, including file names, folder names, and paths.The index remains searchable after the original source is disconnected.Dexxer does not upload your files or indexes, use cloud processing, or monitor your drives in the background.

Does Dexxer update saved scans automatically?

No. Dexxer does not continuously monitor your drives or folders in the background.If files are added, removed, renamed, or moved, reconnect the source and run a new scan to refresh its saved index.

What information can I search with Dexxer?

Depending on the edition and available search controls, Dexxer can search saved information such as:File namesFolder namesFile and folder pathsDrive or source namesSaved scan namesDexxer is designed to help you locate where a file or folder is stored across your saved scans.

Does Dexxer search inside PDFs and documents?

Not currently.Dexxer searches saved file and folder information, but it does not currently open documents to index text inside PDFs, Word documents, or other files.It also does not currently search richer embedded metadata such as image EXIF data, PDF authorship, or media tags.Full-text and deeper metadata indexing are being considered for a future Dexxer Pro update.

Does Dexxer work offline?

Yes. Once Dexxer is installed and any required direct-download Pro activation has been completed, its core scanning and saved-index searching are local to your Mac.No ongoing internet connection is required to search your saved Dexxer indexes.

Does Dexxer upload my files or indexes?

No.Dexxer does not upload your files or saved indexes to a Dexxer cloud service. Your saved indexes remain local on your Mac unless you intentionally export them.There is no Dexxer cloud sync or Dexxer account required for normal use.

Does Dexxer change, move, rename, or delete my files?

No. Dexxer reads file and folder information to create its searchable index.It does not move, rename, delete, reorganize, or modify your original files as part of scanning or searching.Your files remain where you stored them.

Which storage devices can Dexxer index?

Dexxer can index user-selected storage that macOS can mount and read, including common sources such as:External hard drivesExternal SSDsUSB flash drivesSD and microSD cardsMounted volumesSelected foldersOptical media such as CDs and DVDsOlder storage such as Zip disks and floppy disks when a compatible reader is connectedIf macOS can access the source and Dexxer is given permission to scan it, it can generally be used as a Dexxer source.

Can Dexxer index old CDs, DVDs, Zip disks, or floppy disks?

Yes, provided your Mac can mount and read the media using the appropriate drive, reader, or adapter.Scan the media while it is connected, and the saved Dexxer index can remain searchable after the original media is removed.That can be especially useful for old archives you do not want to reconnect every time you are looking for a file.

Can Dexxer index files from iCloud Drive,
Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive?

Dexxer does not connect directly to your cloud accounts.However, files and folders that are downloaded and locally available on your Mac can be indexed when you select the locally available folder as a source.Files that exist only online must first be downloaded to your Mac before Dexxer can index them.

Can Dexxer index a network or NAS volume?

If the network location is mounted and available to macOS as a readable source, it may be selected for scanning in the same way as other mounted storage.The source must be accessible while the scan is being created or refreshed.

Does Dexxer support large drives?

Dexxer can be used with large external drives and archives.Scan time will vary depending on factors such as the number of files and folders, the speed of the storage device, the connection type, and the Mac being used.Older hard drives and very large file collections will naturally take longer to scan than smaller or faster sources.

What happens if I unplug a drive while Dexxer is scanning it?

The scan cannot continue once the source is no longer available.Reconnect the drive and run the scan again when you are ready.Previously completed saved scans are not affected simply because another scan was interrupted.

Can Dexxer help me find duplicate files?

Dexxer is not a duplicate-file cleanup utility and does not automatically delete or merge duplicate files.Dexxer Pro includes duplicate filename visibility, which can help you identify files with matching names across saved scans and compare where they are located.You remain in control of what, if anything, you do with those files.

Where are my Dexxer indexes stored?

Dexxer stores its saved index data locally within the app's data on your Mac.The exact system location can differ depending on the Dexxer edition and how macOS manages that application.Important saved indexes can also be exported when supported by your edition, giving you an additional way to keep or transfer saved scan information.

Can I import and export Dexxer indexes?

Dexxer supports saved-index import and export in editions where that feature is included.This can be useful for backing up important saved indexes or moving saved scan information between compatible Dexxer installations.Exporting an index does not export the original files themselves—it exports Dexxer's saved information about the scanned sources.

Will uninstalling or reinstalling Dexxer delete my saved scans?

Reinstalling the application normally does not intentionally remove separately stored Dexxer data.However, deleting Dexxer's application data, erasing the Mac, or using cleanup software that removes application-support files can remove saved indexes.For indexes that would be difficult to recreate, exporting a backup is a good precaution when that option is available.

Does Dexxer require an account or login?

No.Dexxer does not require a Dexxer account.The direct-download Dexxer Pro edition uses a license key for activation, while the Mac App Store edition is purchased and managed through Apple and does not use a Dexxer Pro license key.

Does Dexxer run on Intel and Apple silicon Macs?

Dexxer is available for Mac, including Intel and Apple silicon systems supported by the applicable build.The Mac App Store edition is distributed as a universal Mac application.Check the current download or App Store listing for the latest system requirements before installing.

Which operating systems does Dexxer support?

Dexxer is currently a macOS application.The Mac App Store edition currently requires macOS 10.15 or later.Windows support is on the Dexxer roadmap but is not part of the current Mac release.

Is Dexxer a subscription?

No. Current Dexxer editions are subscription-free.Dexxer Free is free.The Mac App Store edition is a one-time $19.99 purchase through Apple.Dexxer Pro is a one-time $29 direct purchase.Future major Dexxer Pro versions may be offered as separate paid upgrades, but Dexxer Pro licenses include updates within the 1.x series.

Can I use Dexxer Pro on multiple Macs?

Yes. A direct-download Dexxer Pro license can be activated on up to three Macs personally used by the license holder.The Mac App Store edition is governed separately by Apple's purchase and Family Sharing rules.

Does my Dexxer Pro license include future major versions?

Your Dexxer Pro license includes updates within the Dexxer 1.x series.A future major version, such as Dexxer Pro 2.0, may be offered as a separate paid upgrade.There is no requirement to purchase a future major version to continue using the version you already own.

I purchased Dexxer Pro but did not receive
my license key. What should I do?

I bought the Mac App Store edition.
Do I need to activate Dexxer Pro?

No.The Mac App Store edition is a separate Dexxer edition purchased directly through Apple. It does not use LemonSqueezy or a Dexxer Pro license key.Dexxer Pro licensing applies only to the direct-download Pro edition.

How are refunds handled?

For purchases made through the Mac App Store, refund requests are handled by Apple under Apple's App Store policies.For direct Dexxer Pro purchases, contact Dexxer Support with your purchase information so the request can be reviewed.
